Positives:
IF Anderson sees himself as a head coach some day, then he's got to work on his resume (both in real experience terms and the piece of paper). A coordinator position is the well-trodden road to the HC Gate.
IF Anderson wants to make it to the NFL, then he's got to work on his resume. A coordinator position is also the well-trodden road to the NFL Gate, but there is a faster way (see negatives).
Satisfaction and self-image: Maybe Anderson has a very secure sense of self and handles risk well. People who do have that positive sense of self and take those risks by-and-large feel it is worth it.
Negatives
Is Taggart likely to be a HC in LOVE with offense and hoping the defense can just show up?
Will some unfair college football gravity pull the Bulls down as it has before?
Any sensible Stanford staffer knows that getting to the NFL is more like NASCAR high-speed drafting than any other profession. He had a first hand look at the coaching careers boosted when Harbaugh left and many staff followed tucked in behind. Right to the head of the pack. IF Anderson wants the NFL and thinks Shaw will go in 1-3 years, then going to USF means he's dropping out of the line of coaches drafting behind Shaw.
Is life good in Palo Alto at a school that is doing very well and doesn't seem out of upside? Knowing the kind of kids he's going to be recruiting and working with at Stanford might make it tough to work at a middling program that depends on recruits who usually are not top drawer in talent or academics.
