The BCS computer formulas all need to ignore margin of victory.
The people polls often use margin of victory as a proxy. Â 24-13 would have looked a lot better to those AD staff members that often vote for the coaches on Sunday morning. Â We all know they don\'t actually watch Fox Sports Arizona, so the way the team go to 24 would not have been noticed.
The super secret backdoor to the BCS Championship game probably closed down today. Â An SEC or Big Ten team will get that 1 loss back door option if it is in play. Â However, the path to a BCS bowl game invite was likely not impacted.
C.a.l playing Oregon tough could be good for Stanford, IF Stanford beats C.a.l impressively next week.
Of course, if Stanford finishes 10-2 or 9-3 then it is the Alamo Bowl. Â Arizona is losing again, so Pac-12 political forces will likely make sure that Stanford does not get passed over by UofA, OSU or C.a.l.
So for now it is all about the upside. Â Beat C.a.l! Â Get a BCS invite!
The downside is limited to the Alamo bowl. Â I think in August almost everyone on this board would have been delighted with that possibility.
