I know Shaw keeps talking about McCaffrey, but....really? At running back, he'd have to be No. 2 at the very least to get enough touches to make this worth burning a year of eligibility. And how good a punt returner would he have to be to make it justifiable on that basis? Especially when Shaw keeps saying he wants to use Ty Montgomery there.

It could be more about getting him experience for next year. Also, if you don't think the guy will stay for year 5 then burning the redshirt doesn't cost anything.
