http://www.ndnation.com/boards/showpost.php?b=football;pid=190326;d=this   A short Notre Dame Nation thread that lets us feel their pain, , backs it up with brief statistics, lets us feel good about our recruiting class, and is mercifully short.

A taste:  "Stanford is a much more attractive option to the types of kids we need and used to get."  Not news to us, but fun to hear Domers see the reality.

A great comment a couple of posts down in the thread.  Check it out.

Love it!

If they want to fix things, it starts with Purple-face moving on . . .

Shhh, don't tell them that...

Shhh, don't tell them that...

WAY too late for that.

ND fans, and in particular NDNation, desperately want purple face out by two years ago at the latest. For that matter, they will want any coach out who ever dips below 10 wins in a season. (yeah, they have been unhappy for a long time)

They have a great tradition of coaches over the past 20 years.  ::)

Bob Davie (1997-2001) Record 35-25

George O'Leary (2004) Record 0-0 (Fired for false resume)

Tyrone Willingham (2002-2004) Record 21-15

Charlie Weis (2005-2009) Record 35-27

Brian Kelly (2010-present) Record 59-31

So the fans want to get rid of the most successful coach they have had in at least 20 years.

Besides record, many feel he does not reflect the desired values of the university.  I agree.

And Willingham is tied for 2nd

The trend line for Willingham was not good at ND.

Indeed, his first season was a lot of smoke and mirrors as the Irish racked up wins with flukey plays/breaks.  IIRC, the proverbial chickens came home to roost in the bowl game where ND was exposed for the overrated team they were.

Understand why he left for ND, but wish he would have stayed at Stanford.  And if it weren't for the bank he amassed at ND (which beget more bank from UW), the I'd bet he'd agree.  Of course, that's a gigantic "if."

But he did bank it twice (compound banking?)...and now he's playing all the golf he could ever want to play.

Speaking of N.D. schadenfreude, here's a thread bemoaning Stanford's recruiting success: http://notredame.247sports.com/Board/87/...d-50951919

They pulled Durham Smythe away from Stanford, didn't they?  And it looks like they've not done much with him :(  (This season-- 9 total catches on 18 targets, 112 yds, 4 TDs, 7th on the team by yardage, started all 12 games)

South Bend, where good players tarnish.

Yep, Stanford is able to go anywhere in the country and pluck kids away from in-state powers. Their vetting system helps them judge a recruits interest. If a kid wants to get accepted into Stanford he's got to make a serious attempt to meet admissions. Remember a few years back when many on this board were predicting the demise of Stanford don't see that discussion these days.

Finally... it only took, Toby Gerhart, Jim Harbaugh, Andrew Luck, etc. all leaving and Stanford still being good for them to notice.  Interesting site; instead of having a premium board and a non-premium board, it appears some posters are premium and some are not.
