ALL RIGHT NOW! Talk about a fitting way to take it, with Lord staying clutch, recovering from a fast momentum switch in set two and holding steady in those do-or-die moments at the end of the third. Can't think of a more fitting way for it to end.

And Stanford wins its second championship as a #15 seed. A record that will never be broken . . . unless the committee seeds Stanford #15 again next year.

Michaela Gordon is a national champion.
And Caroline Lampl, Melissa Lord, and Kimberly Yee are two-time national champions.
That feels good to say.
The All-Tournament team includes Lord at #2, Lampl at #3, Shin at #5, and Higuchi at #6.

Yes, live updates were fantastic for those of us who couldn't stream it non-stop.
Also fitting that Lord, Lampl, Shin, and Higuchi were all named most outstanding at their positions. Definitely so.

And, given the discussion about "Call it out" sportsmanship, I found it fitting that an umpire overrule was a crucial point in the final game, making it 15-all instead of 30-love. Lord punched a ball deep into the Vandy player's backhand corner, and she called it out... and was immediately overruled from the chair.
That, combined with a couple of really lucky breaks going Vandy's way, made it sweet - the Commodores saving a match point against Shin on a netcord dropping just on the wrong side of the court made the reverse being championship point that much better.

Higuchi and Shin cruised in straight sets, as predicted. Sharma did indeed win in straight sets but Gordon played her tough, taking the first set to a tiebreaker. She started this year off playing at #4, and then #5, and finally back home at #6, where she's just too good. Players at the bottom of the lineup don't get the national publicity, and they're often unranked, but the points all count the same. For her to be on the All-Tournament Team at #6 feels really good.

Lampl now has 76 career victories. After starting the year 9-6, she ended the year 12-1. She's not quite Lord, but her all-time NCAA record is 11-2.
Higuchi's career is now at 62-10; she's 43-4 at duals, 12-4 at NCAA's, and has bageled her opponent in 33 sets. She ended the year on a 17-win streak.
I see Carol Zhao was as glued to the action as I was.
