Some great Haley Jones quotes
Reading the Notre Dame and the UConn boards you pick up various tidbits and rumors. The Notre Dame people pointed out that Haley moved her official visit to Stanford from some other time to last weekend and they were speculating as to why--no real plausible theories. The UConn people have this post:
I'm trying to remember a time when several of the top programs waited to the last minute to land a recruit. So often the recruits make up their minds much earlier than this. All three fan bases are waiting with bated breath.
Quote:For what it's worth-I spoke with the father of a D1 scholarship player who knows Haley Jones and he says that Haley has always wanted to play for UConn. We can only hope.

In other words, did any of them ever talk about their decision processes later in their careers?

As we all wait with anticipated for her decision, when is she expected to announce again? Is it not until November?

She still has Oregon and South Carolina on her list, and as far as I know has not done an official visit to them. She could still fit them in during the next couple of weeks or the second weekend of November, if she wants.
National Signing day is November 14.
I expect we will hear between November 5 and November 14.
Someone over at the Boneyard remarked that the advantage of playing at Stanford in front of her family would be a lot for any other team to overcome. I hadn't quite thought of it that way. Not only do we have the 40 year advantage, but in her case we are the school that would make it possible to have her family in the stands regularly for four years. Those are two gigantic advantages.

Especially since her family seems pretty engaged. That is the big plus to a Bay Area vs. even SoCal recruit. And yet funny enough, we very rarely ever get any.
BobK, do we know of any overseas recruits the coaches have their eyes on? IIRC, Alanna Smith was an out-of-nowhere commitment the coaches kept under the radar and only revealed after we missed on another top recruit fairly late in the game. (or maybe it was Alyssa Jerome I'm thinking of?) I have to assume they have a plan B that we aren't aware of, because it just seems too risky to keep a spot open for Jones until the last minute, and I don't think overseas players have to play by national signing day rules?

It’s been years since we lost an admitted local recruit. Why do you think we have 2006?
No foreign recruits I’m aware of. It’s Jones or pass for 2019 but who knows :)
So many possibles stateside for 2020, 2021, 2022. Or if you want to worry Brink was with Ionescu at the Oregon football game yesterday.
I believe it’s Jones or bust. Again saving one for 2020 if no Jones would be very wise
I recall Smith was very highly thought of
To answer the question about the 4 I posted above waiting to do all visits, all four have said it was stanford all the way after they got to Stanford lol. You might remember Dad Appel broke his ankle on the UConn trip and that decided it for him lol

I have been rooting for an early cold snap in Storrs with miserable gloomy rain. I suppose it's too early to hope for sleet and ice. Obviously not rooting for a broken ankle, though!
Meanwhile it's a beautiful day as I'm hanging out at the beach in Pacifica. ?
BTW, Bob, I saw you at the WVB game last evening but didn't have a chance to go over and say hi.

I didn't think we'd lost any, I just don't think there are many. Most of the local bay area products I can think of have gone to Cal, but I don't remember any of them being on our radar to begin with (i.e., admissible). And let's certainly hope this year is not the year!
And I remember Smith always being very highly touted, I just remember she was a closely guarded secret by the coaches and when she announced she had not previously been on the board's radar at all.

Sorry I missed you Comp.
Wow so not true on locals to cal. Cal tars are the premier travel team on the West Coast, check out where they went or are going:

Not sure what you mean by "not true" - Hannah Jump is the only player on that whole long list back to 2009 who's playing for Stanford? My point was just that I can think of a number of Bay Area recruits who've gone to Cal, but none in my memory as a fan who've gone to Stanford. Jump is the first. Fingers crossed Jones will be the second!

Well if you looked at the cal stars last 4 years, 24 went to major schools, one to cal. Sure cal gets some locals.
To Stanford:
Erica Payne
Sara James
Hannah Donaghe
Ally Beebe
Fun posts, and moving on :)

Jayne Appel was local (Concord). She is probably the best comparison in terms of recruiting, having the lofty ranking (3) and choosing Stanford over UConn, Tennessee, etc. And at the time she did, Stanford WBB had been on a bit of a down cycle but she came anyway.

Well, family connections and relative geography could have helped in a recent #1 recruit that ultimately decided on UConn, though in the end, perhaps it was because of those reasons and wanting to forge her own path instead of following in her sisters' footsteps, did the youngest Samuelson decide to be a Husky instead.

Yeah, that one really hurt. And what's worse is that we've drawn the short straw both ways on that issue, with Diggins staying home in South Bend.
