I know it's not what he said, but I interpreted it as "If we can get away without playing him and still do well, I don't want to risk any further injury to him." FWLIW.

He probably should not have played. And frankly I hope he doesn’t play again unless he’s 100%. He’s got an NFL career ahead of him. He’s given an awful lot to Stanford. They owe it to him to let him completely heal before putting him out on the field again.

at this point, i think Speights and especially Scarlett have played well enough that we shouldn't use Bryce until it's no longer a risk.

I agree even if that means we don't see him play again, which I think is likely after he reinjured it last night. I am sooooo pissed at Shaw about this. Love missed now-2+ games this year due to his number being called for him on stupid plays - first the concussion against U$C and then the ankle injury at ND. Maybe his ankles are just fragile and it was due to happen again, what do I know.

I really don't know what Stanford was thinking sending Love out there to play last night. He obviously is not even close to 100% and they are ruining both his body and his NFL career prospects.

Would think the NFL is more concerned that he gets hurt too much then they are he would be ruining his body because he is playing with a gimpy ankle. In fact, the NFL wants to see guys willing to play hurt, so Love could improve his stock by playing hurt.

I think that Love should play if and only if he was completely ready to play, which he was definitely not last night. As for the rest of the season, maybe he will not be good to go until after the season is over, and if he gets drafted, OK, but if he doesn't, so be it. Hopefully in the end he will learn to become as spectacularly as good a pediatrician as he has been a running back.

Didn't Speights pick up the blitz that allowed Costello to throw the touchdown pass to JJAW? Don't underestimate the importance of pass blocking for a Stanford running back.
Of course, Scarlett is pretty good pass blocking as well.

That said, I think Scarlett is better, partly because he is heavier. Speights almost missed the guy on that play. Speights also has some problems with getting overpowered quickly.
