Such a crazy story on the unlikely development of a basketball star. I had heard she only picked up basketball in high school, but hadn't heard that her parents wouldn't let her play for years because of other commitments.

On ESPN2, they're broadcasting the Powerade Jamfest, where Belibi just won the co-ed dunk contest - perfect 80 score off a lob assist from future teammate Haley Jones. Can't wait for next year!!!

Fran also apparently dunked over Ashten Prechtel as well, so three of our incoming freshmen took part in the festivities.

Here's a story with some video:

Replay of the entire Jamfest is available on the ESPN app. Fran's first 3 dunks are worth seeing too! The rest of the event was pretty fun to watch as well.

The schedule was for 90 minutes and I just punched record for the full program. But it ran past that 90 minutes so my recording ran out before Fran's last dunk. Frustration! But now I've seen it. Really neat! And I loved that Haley and Aston were her partners in the contest.(03-25-2019, 07:59 PM)TheFarm07 Wrote:(03-25-2019, 05:58 PM)2006alum Wrote: On ESPN2, they're broadcasting the Powerade Jamfest, where Belibi just won the co-ed dunk contest - perfect 80 score off a lob assist from future teammate Haley Jones. Around the Horn and PTI both covered Belibi today.
With Jones being the #1 recruit, and Belibi being a 6-1 dunking woman - with the goggles - Stanford's WBB is going to be a media darling if they want the exposure for the next few years.

The future looks very bright. I hope there's not too much hype for the 2019-20 season while the 2019 entering class are still freshmen, though.

LOL Tara always says the best thing about freshmen is that they become sophomores!
Having said that, the Hulls have been great this year, although the BYU game was probably one they would like to forget.

i'm going to go out on a limb her and pencil in haley jones with high minutes next year. that gives us a first rotation of kiana, the twin hulls, and anna wilson at guard (or wing), dijonai and haley at wing, and maya and nadia at post.
that's a good 8-player team right there. if maya and anna continue the improvement we saw this year, it could be an excellent team. guard and wing are stacked - i haven't even included jenna brown who also could make a big jump from freshman to sophomore year. our question mark is depth in the post. we lose 2 post players with big minutes in alanna and shannon - one an all-star - so we will likely need extensive minutes from fran or prechtel or improvement from rising junior alyssa jerome.
by the way, that's a rotation of 9 to 11 good to excellent players, allowing 2 of the freshman not to play much. tara could pull a charli tt and sub all 5 players at once, as in hockey. not that she will, but with this many strong players, she could.

I can see Belibi and Prechtel getting playing time next year as well. Belibi will play if she can defend multiple positions and rebound (I think the rebounding is almost a given at this point). Prechtel is a very good face up shooter. She will get playing time if she can pass in the Princeton office as well as hit the high post jump shot (sort of the role Lauren Cox has at Baylor).

Gotta watch those lamps when passing in the office. :•)
Put a glide in your stride and a dip in your hip.

Fingall's ACL recovery is going to be key. Hopefully she'll be able to play and play well early. Otherwise we'll be going small or giving the freshman posts a lot of minutes they may not be ready for yet.

She looked very mobile (with a brace). I thought she might put up a shot or two.
Need to get her on the court, and get someone else to help with FTs! 42%, yucch!
