I agree.  In fact, I’m betting against MLB and/or NBA playing.   They are of course gearing up to play. But I’m still thinking the games actually won’t happen. Not so sure about the NFL.

$40m is earmarked for Morehouse. Definitely helps defray the costs of lost revenue while guaranteeing the student-athletes their scholarships...

(ETA: And yes, DII schools can and do give athletic-scholarships.)

ETA2: With a total endowment of $145m, Morehouse's $40m gift receipt from has to be one of the largest percentage-increases in endowments from a single gift in the past half century. Incredible.

Silver said the fast-rising number of positive COVID-19 cases across the country has increased his “level of concern” and acknowledged it was a “fair question,” whether the NBA would have chosen to restart its season in Florida, knowing the state would set multiple single-day records of positive cases this week.

If no, COVID (together with a big assist from the current administration) will kill a coveted NCAA team title streak.  :(

continuously for their season, and it might make for higher quality TV football than the average game that would be televised otherwise.

Remember we only know about the people that have tested positive for the live virus.   My guess has been that a number of the players got the virus back in April or May and no longer are actively shedding the virus.   They would presumably show antibodies if Clemson is testing for that at this stage.  

Herd immunity wouldn't quite work for them because those without immunity would still have very close interactions with those outside of their little herd.   Still, I would not be shocked if 60 or more players on the team have COVID19 antibodies by early September.   Thankfully, I believe they are still reporting that no one on the team has had more than mild symptoms and no one has required hospitalization.

I fear the staff types (grounds crews, security, administrators, janitors) that support the team will not be as lucky, but hopefully it all works out.

If I was a coach in ACC with relatively few players with antibodies I probably would be an advocate for cancelling this season at this stage.    I just can't imagine a team could travel to Clemson on a Thursday night and leave 48 hours later without the players or staff getting COVID from someone in the State of South Carolina.   

I shouldn't single out South Carolina.   A similar fear of spending a weekend in other hot spots would exist for a number of places in the USA.

Those football teams would return to their campus and would certainly spread it around their campus and towns before it was clear which players and staff were active carriers of COVID.
