I understand the issue at some level, but find it curious too.
There is at least one player with COVID. OK
The use of "resulting isolation" is a curious choice of words.
Isolation implies positive for COVID, but I will imagine it is just quarantine for the moment.
How many players were in close contact with a single player? I would have thought every team would do a much better job to keep pods small to reduce the idea that one single player could cause this issue. Clemson, for example, had its QB test positive and yet played days later.
It seems to me that either Cal or UW is not super passionate about playing a game without fans. That's probably OK for two teams without CFP aspirations, but what happens if Cal has a similar incident prior to a game against (potentially undefeated) Oregon?
At this point, I am not really certain Cal will play Big Game. We are almost inside the 21 day window already. Presumably their UW game was impacted by contact tracing and quarantine rather than actual positive tests, but it does illustrate how vulnerable every Pac-12 game will be to potential cancellation.
