It's not just WBB. Have you listened to Bill Walton rambling continuously through a men's game? Lots of announcers in lots of sports do it. Maybe the producers want to create an atmosphere of a bunch of guys in a sports bar yakking with the game on in the background. Or maybe the announcers have called too many games and are so jaded they don't care what's happening on the court in front of their eyes anymore.
I could not agree more. Walton is probably an interesting guy to be around and would be a great storyteller late into the evening at the Oasis ( maybe Bill too should shut down) but he ruins a basketball game with moronic musings of the type most people outgrow after their freshman year.

The ESPN announcers for 1099 were appropriately laudatory and respectful of Tara, and the fact that they put a game against UOP on national TV shows that ESPN had their priorities straight--for once.
However, even more than most nights, the commentary was almost completely unrelated to the game. I want my sports announcers to discuss the strategy of the game, to be more knowledgeable about the game than I am and to share that knowledge so I can learn how to "see" the game in a deeper, richer way. They are "teachers" in the sense that they are teaching the viewers how to appreciate the game more. That did not happen.
Their utter disengagement with the play of the game was revealed toward the beginning--long before the blowout began--when they noted that Kianna Williams made a jumper--when it was Anna Wilson. Then they did this again. Sitting way upstairs and not court side I guess they thought that all smallish African American women who scored baskets on our team had to be named Williams. That is the kind of mistake that we would not forgive an announcer of a high school game.
But worse than the mistake itself is what it said about their attention to the game. They were not really paying very close attention. Many plays happened in which they talked right over the plays unremarked. If something spectacular happened then they would interrupt--sometimes after-the-fact--and note the spectacular assist or basket. But most of the time they were not truly "calling the game" at all. The video editors were doing a better job with replays and close-ups that highlighted plays and players, and some of the time the announcers did not even comment on the replays! They were too self-absorbed.
By the way, this board has been highly critical of ESPN for being more of a booster of UConn WBB than an even-handed sports network. And so it has been. But I wonder if part of it has to do with the differing personalities of Geno and Tara. Tara is so modest, so understated, and she does not interview dynamically. Geno is a made-for-TV personality. You could see the announcers desperately trying to get something out of Tara during the post game interview, and Tara looking pained, having to talk about her own accomplishments when she would much rather have been with her team. They won't have that problem with a blowhard like Geno.

The game seems to be listed at 6pm PT rather than 2pm, according to both the Stanford and USC WBB schedules, and on the Pac-12 Network guide, even though it's listed at 2pm on ESPN—can we edit the title to reflect?

Was the time of the game moved, or did I just misread the schedule?

Maybe it changed, maybe ESPN just got it wrong...

There is one positive to a recent change in start time. It means as of the moment the game was not cancelled. I would expect Stanford to have more up to date information than ESPN.

My Comcast guide now shows the game as delayed broadcast on PAC-12 network at 9 PM. I seems to have been pre-empted by some men's BB game. I guess I will have to stream it if I want to watch live.

I know it's not the same, but I sometimes listen to Stanford WBB (and Stanford MBB) on the TuneIn app on my phone.
If there's one thing people have learned in Berkeley, it's that you can't put "Cal football" and "Rose Bowl" in the same sentence. The words just don't fit. You'd be better off linking "covered wagons" with "Mars travel." (Bruce Jenkins, Cal '70, SF Chronicle, Nov. 11, 2017)

pac-12.com still says the women's game will be televised at 6pm, on Pac-12 Network, Pac-12 Bay Area, Pac-12 Los Angeles, and via live stream.

I have to think pac-12.com knows better what they are going to source than Comcast does. Let's see if Comcast updates their schedule in a day or two. Of course if they don't, it will be hard to set your DVR to the right time and ensure it stays set that way.

I take it we are still on for 6:00 tonight, which should be right about when the football game is going into the 4th quarter.
The scheduling certainly leaves a lot to be desired.
Interesting that they were able to keep the men's team from conflicting with football.

Unless you know something I don’t, it looks like MBB and FB both start at 4pm.

My cable provider shows WBB game on PAC-12 LA which I get. There is no sporting event being shown prior to the game that would be a conflict with the start of the game.
Baylor WBB beat a team today by 93 points. That doesn't seem like a good use of time.

Women are winning comfortably, but statistically it doesn't look like we are hitting on all cylinders.
Midway through the second quarter, a measly 25 points, shooting 30% from the field.
BC
32 - 24 at the half. Kiana will 11 on 4/8 shooting, 3/4 from 3. Belibi and Prechtel with doughnuts.

Shooting in first quarter was not good; slightly better in second quarter.
Last season I expected Prechtel would be a star this year. She seems to have lost her mojo. I might be reading this wrong but I see a lack of enthusiasm and energy. To be fair she got a ton of playing time and did do some good things; not enough IMO. I want Belibi or Brink on the court when the game is on the line.
