The criticism of the NCAA's obvious sexist treatment of women's basketball mentioned the unequal COVID tests, the unequal weight rooms, and the unequal food.  But it should also have noted the unequal officiating.   Of course, the bad quality of officiating in WBB is decades old, not something new during the COVID tournament.  I wonder, do they pay the refs of the women's game the same as they do the refs of men's games?

The Big 10 has 4 teams:  Indiana, Maryland, Iowa and Michigan.  I would not be surprised if all 4 of them lost though.  Maryland will be playing Texas and the Texas defense is formidable.

Too big a hole to dig out of for the Bruins, who lost 71-62.  They outscored Texas 48-36 in the second half, but since they were down 35-14 at halftime, it was too little, too late.  Onyenwere had 23, but it took her 22 shots to get there; Osborne had 17, but was only 4/16 (1/9 from 3), Bessoir had 11 and the rest of the supporting cast had 11 combined.

UCLA finally did make a 3, but ended the day 1/19 for a shade over 5% from behind the arc.  They shot 33% overall, while allowing Texas to shoot 51%.  The only reason it was close was that UCLA outrebounded Texas 39-29 and thus had 14 more shot attempts than the Longhorns (and a few extra free throws).  UCLA's bench was short (only 3 subs came in), but shockingly, Texas' was even shorter; only 7 players played and only 6 attempted a shot.

UA did not look great today.  I have not been very high on them.  They are a solid team, but only McDonald is really great, and she tends to do too much.  Plus she can be slowed down, which kills UA.  UCLA played an abysmal game.  That first half was ridiculously bad, an F- if we are grading.  They were thin, yes, but the talent was there with Onyenwere and Osborne, and a few good shooters on offense, along with their smack you around a bit defense and rebounding.  They made Texas look like world beaters in the first half.  I don't know what their plan was but they looked totally unready to play.  I was not surprised UA struggled to beat BYU.  I was surprised UCLA did not show better.  Oregon looked good using their two posts together and their zone bothered GA.

Very good question, 81. I would be shocked if they are getting paid the same as the men. 

And perhaps the bad quality of officiating in WBB is decades old because we still have most of the same refs we were seeing before the members of this team were even born.

Very good question, 81. I would be shocked if they are getting paid the same as the men.

- We're gonna lay it on Mo St. Could be a perfect game for us to get our mojo back. Sometimes you have to be a bit lucky, and this is a great break for us. Card by 20+.
- Oregon has a real chance against Louisville. Van Lith is a phenom, but I don't think the rest of them constitute a Final 4 team. I like our chances if we face them. Actually, I'm not sure who we want to win. 
- I'm really looking forward to Maryland-Texas. We're going to find out a lot about Maryland. I think they've been fortunate so far to play teams that can't hang with their pace. If they put up 80+ against Texas I'll be very surprised (and then scared). 
- How great is the UConn/Iowa/Baylor/Michigan bracket? Wow, what fun games. Winner of that bracket gets to the finals. 
- Arizona got a great draw. A&M is going to have their hands full with Aari. We've seen plenty of teams who have a player like Aari who carry them to the promised land. Even though she tries to do too much, they need her to do too much. If she's on, they can win. Not likely, but you never know!
