I haven't looked at tonight's stats. I'm sure you know this. A triple block counts as 3 block assists which equals 1.5 blocks. The half block in the stats is almost always from a triple block.

Rubin is starting to remind me of Jordan Burgess. Burgess was the best digging and passing Stanford OH I have seen. FWIW Burgess is currently a full time student in the Stanford School of Medicine.
I haven't seen enough of Blyashov to know about her back row defense but I suspect it will be an upgrade. Passing and back row may be better next year. Middles and Opp good but probably not better than this year. IMO if Stanford gets all the recruits I'm hoping for in 2025, that will be the next year to look at a possible final four. Seems a long way off.

My preference is to keep this thread going indefinitely. I occasionally like going back in time and reading comments from years past. But I'm fine with whatever the consensus is.

I am not sure if next year’s talent will be the same as this year. One thing I can guarantee is next year’s team will have more swagger and fight. Rubin, Harvey and Francis will be vocal on the court. They will be feisty

I am happy Baird ended on a much better game. She deserved that.
For me the core today was too many service errors and no blocking. The middles were also mostly without impact the last 2 matches though we at least had some blocking vs. ASU. I am not seeing how that is better or even the same next year.
in the end this has been a very good team, but not Final 4 level. They have had their shots the last 2 years at home. It will be a big rebuild next year.
The big positive is Rubin has emerged as a star.

It certainly seemed to me that our blocking was significantly lacking last night. When Texas blocked, more often than not the ball went down in a stuff and they got the point. When we blocked, more often than not it seemed to go out of bounds or down on our own side, giving Texas the point.
It also seemed that their blockers were often waiting for our hits on the outside, in place and cutting off the angles, and we would hit right into them. This happened once with a Kipp hit from the back but less frequently than on the sides. We seemed to have some success dinking over the blocks.
What caused this disparity? Was it athleticism, strategy, what?

Blocks are much more likely to happen on out of system sets and poor sets. There is clearly technique to closing the block and penetrating the net. But we are not going to get a lot of blocks when they are in system.
We are averaging 2.6 blocks per set on the year and last night we only got 3 in 4 sets.
Texas is averaging 2.9 blocks per set on the year and last night got right on their average at 12.

With Miner, as good a setter as out there, and Oglivie back, I see a potential Final Four next year, but without the high expectations pressure of this year's squad. Not looking forward to playing Pitt and Louisville.
Very frustrating Tourney (although, like someone else wrote, happy Baird had a good final match), but very much looking forward to next year's squad that may start out under the radar but I expect to be a high seed by tourney time.

MSG, I agree with everything you posted except I don't think Kurt will be a starter. Obviously I have no inside information to base that on. And it's hard to believe a player for Turkey's Senior National Team and a professional team would be sitting on the bench at Stanford, but that's what I expect.
My reason is as Joe pointed out Kurt played primarily at OPP thus far in her career. Why would Hambly convert Harvey to OPP without her having any prior experience in that position when Kurt is available? The logical explanation to me is that Hambly sees more potential in Harvey than Kurt.
However the starting lineup shakes out it should be exciting. I'm looking for enthusiasm and swagger. Those traits can lead to confidence and this team needs confidence to play well.
Typically I'm disappointed after the last game of the season unless it's a win in the Championship match. I'm not disappointed at all today. I expected this inconsistent group of players to get as far as they did. So they achieved expectations and from my perspective there's no reason to be disappointed about that. Not every team can be a National Champion and this was not a NC level team.

FWIW, passing stats were posted on Volleytalk. I was totally wrong. We passed well and they didn't. They just hit really really well.....

Thanks for that link BA. It will be interesting to see how Kipp does in the league. I won't follow it only because I have no connection to any team and one Stanford alum is not enough to get me interested. I'm guessing they can draft anyone they want but getting a signed contract is another question. I thought Kipp was planning to play in Europe where she will undoubtedly make more money.

Unfortunately I predict the league will be bankrupt within four years. While wvb has become wildly popular as a participation sport for young females it's not much of a spectator sport in the states other than at the college level.

My guess is that Kipp will join a club in Europe next year or maybe she will do Athletes Unlimited for one part of the year and Pro Volleyball Federation the next. European clubs are already half way through their season
