Actually, I wonder if her work as president of the WNBA player's association may have disadvantaged her.  There are a number of WNBA execs involved in making the decision, and the WNBA management and PA are on opposite sides of the collective bargaining negotiations.

I just listened and yes, it is very disheartening. 

I won't be watching the USA games.  I'll go one further and repeat what I said before--it would be good for USA basketball (in the long run) if they lost.  That really would provoke reform.  Trouble is, we could probably send our 10th best team and still win.

I am not so sure it would change anything for the better. The men's loss simply forced them to allow professional players on the team. It wasn't any more "fair", just more effective. The women already have professional players allowed. That "quick fix" isn't available. If anything, a loss will motivate a more "structured" player choice leading to an even more arbitrary system.

Was it interesting because of the number 15 or because they enumerated a women's team by calling it a 15 man.  I was yesteray days old when I found out that the Air Force calls all members of the air force, regardless of sex, "airmen", and notes the term applies equally to men and women.

How about this as a starting point:  if TeamUSA doesn't want a player on its roster; and that player qualifies to play under another country's rules/requirements; then FIBA should not veto it, barring some good cause reason.  "A player's substantial involvement in TeamUSA previously" should not matter . . . should it?  I mean . . . who cares?  Obviously, TeamUSA doesn't - they don't want her on the squad.

[And if it gets out that TeamUSA somehow back-channeled FIBA to deny Nneka the right to play with Nigeria - which I have no reason to believe at this time - then I'll be really pissed].

Of course, Nneka's situation is different, since her parents are Nigerian, but you could imagine countries basically fielding rent-a-player teams to represent them if you opened it up completely.  I think, for example, that there were limitations on Catarina Macario playing for the USWNT (she was ultimately approved to play by FIFA this year: https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2021/01...-the-uswnt).
