Kevin Hogan's experience as a starter in 2012 was far less than McKee's today when he got Stanford to the Rose Bowl (after beating UCLA twice).  McKee may be the superior QB but Hogan's advantage was lower-body strength. Kept him essentially injury free. Pray for McKee's health.

To state the situation exactly, McKee has started 4 games in his Stanford career. Hogan had started 5 games in 2012 before he started the Rose Bowl. As of today, McKee therefore has LESS experience than Hogan did when he started the Rose Bowl. However, if McKee leads the team to a Rose Bowl he will have started 12 games (presumably) including a PAC-12 championship game. There was also no thought Hogan would go pro at the end of the Rose Bowl. McKee could, because he is three years out of High School. He won't have as much game experience as Trey Lance (17 games) at that time, but it may not matter if he really shows well enough.
