YESSSS! Just what we needed. Congrats to her. She's an incredible talent. She was worth the wait. Glad we came out on top with this one!

What a great family too. Very touching event. Parents tearing up about their daughter's success both as a basketball player but as a person. A great family has entered the Stanford WBB tradition.

If she can gain the trust of the coaching staff as a true frosh, a la Amber Orrange and Kiana Williams, she can be a significant part of the team right away.

What a relief! I'm way backlogged and haven't been able to watch most of either game yet, but with Lacie seeming to be our de facto point guard right now, and with Wilson sometimes serving that role, I was thinking how much *more* trouble we'll be in next year with our backcourt with both of them graduating. So pumped about this.

Well, next year could be an adventure. Kiana, Amber, Lili, etc. all played a lot as freshmen, but seldom were asked to be point until later in their careers. Sniezek was point during Kiana's year, and Amber during Lili's first year. Tara does not have a record of starting freshmen as point guards.
Also keep in mind that Lepolo is reputedly an outstanding point guard too. ESPN lists Nivar as a guard--not as a point guard--not quite sure why. Perhaps players do not want to be too typecast during the recruiting period. In any case, I suspect that we have a couple of years anyway when our point guard will be someone we currently know on our bench. Lacie could come back, for example, if she has an outstanding season at point this year and if Lexie gets drafted. And we still have not seen Harriel play, who is coming back from some sort of injury. Perhaps she will be an outstanding point guard. And will Jenna Brown come back from injury? Lots of unanswered questions about next year.
Perhaps someone remembers....I seem to recall the last time we had this situation was when Amber Orrange came in. Didn't she play some point her freshman year? Kokenis had more assists that year, but Orrange played a lot as a freshman....what were their two roles?

Congrats to Indya and her family! Great decision. Glad the staff landed another top guard to round out its 2022 recruiting class. Look forward to seeing competitive contests with the Bruins. Back the Pac!

Welcome to the Cardinal family, Indya NIVAR!
She is described as an athletic combo guard, who has been playing both SG and PG. Just what Stanford needed, especially with its current issues and moreso next season had NIVAR opted for NC State.
I had my doubts about getting her, but prayers answered. Thank you, Lord!

This is great news. With Nivar and Lepolo coming in we brought in two players who we hope can fill a position of need. Don't forget we still haven't seen Harriel play at all. I don't believe she is projected as a point guard, but she is a guard. Plus Van Gytenbeek should not be counted out. Players do learn and develop. All that said, it really makes the class a lot better to have Nivar in it. Welcome to her and family.

And, ever since I watched videos of her play, I don't know why a taller version of Amber ORRANGE always comes to mind....

On the question of Tara not starting freshman at point, yes, that's been true most of the time. But there have been exceptions involving exceptional players. I know that Ros G-O started at point for most, if not all, of her freshman year. I don't know about Sonia Henning since I didn't start watching Stanford WBB until her junior year. But I'd be surprised if she didn't. The other outstanding case that I"m aware of is Jamilla Wideman. She started, I believe, from the very beginning. IMHO, Sonia and Jamilla are the two best pgs that Stanford has ever had. And then there's the case of Nicole Powell. She also started from her first game as a freshman, and was converted to a pg since there wasn't any other strong candidate. That's if I remember that one correctly. At any rate, a bit of historical perspective.

Mary Murphy reminded us the Powell became the point guard when Susan King got hurt. That was In the Oklahoma game on a very dirty play

candice wiggins started her freshman year. in fact she was conference player of the year as a freshman. she played both 1 and 2.
