Some people just hoping for a transfer.  Same poster last year as this.

I'm not hoping for that.  Never.  And I did raise concerns about Prechtel early last season because I thought she was getting short-shrifted at the time (and also why I was especially pleased for her carrying the team to Fina Four in Elite 8 game).

More generally, I've always said I think it's important for athletes at Stanford to love Stanford outside their sport because not all of them are going to be the stars they were in high school.  That is especially true on a 17-person roster that is LOADED with stud players, and seemingly gets more competitive/upgraded yearly.  A tribute to the staff that they have done as well as they have keeping things together.  

But Bob, ever the cheerleader, are you going to cling to the notion that all is hunky dory at all times on every team, including the WBB team? 
C'mon now.  Carrington wasn't that long ago.

You’ll love that a friend and I were recently verbally upset at maybe the 3rd Stanford volleyball service error of the past five were told to be positive these are just college kids. 
I am so lucky to have season tix to so many sports and despite living 2 1/2 hours away get to cheer the Stanford team both in person and on fan boards

Hear, hear. No question Stanford athletics is experiencing a bit of a down period, but our cup runneth over even in the years when we don't win the Directors' one. And in WBB, even in our leaner years it was so much fun to follow the growth of players like Erica McCall, Brittany McPhee, and Alanna Smith, who were all All-American or honorable mention by the end of senior year after starting out relatively under the radar out of HS. The Jones, Brink, and Betts types who come in and dominate from day one are icing on the fun cake.

We are definitely blessed every year with the level of talent in all sports.  That being said, I wouldn’t say development is an area we excel at on the wbb team.  McCall and McPhee were recruited by almost all programs.  McCall was the California Gatorade player of the year and McDonald’s all American in HS, not to mention sister of DeWanna Bonner.  McPhee was 3x Washington Gatorade poy, all American, and #25 in her class.  At the time, they were two of the higher recruits we had on our roster and had high expectations coming in.
