Great to hear re: Nivar. Both a good sign for her prospects to slide into the PG role next year, and also look forward to getting to see her play against the top HS girls. (Though I recall that Haley Jones had a terrible McD's game and it portended absolutely nothing whatsoever.)

With Wilson, the Hull twins and Hamilton most likely all gone after this season, we'll definitely need Nivar to step in and possibly make an immediate impact next year at the guard position.

Assuming Lexi moves on and everyone else returns. We will have 8 McDonalds All Americans on our roster next season.
-Nivar, Betts, Demetere, Iriafen, Brink, Belibi, Jones, Prechtel
Aside from South Carolina, not sure another program has that many! Impressive!

And ours are homegrown rather than acquired in the transfer portal!

For sure. I am hopeful there's some possibility Lacie comes back so she, Jones, Van Gytenbeek, and the frosh can run point by committee. With Betts coming I actually think the most logical lineup by mid-season will be Some(Point-playing)Guard/Jones/Jump/Brink/Betts. Jones can still bring the ball up and initiate like she does, Jump at the wing, and two bigs (hopefully with Brink being more comfortable coming back out to the high post more).

The way I remember it, we had good point guards in the early 2000's, it was just that there were too many injuries.

Were there others? Was Hones out for one year's NCAA's? I can't remember.
Imagine what last year's NCAA's would have been like for us if Kiana had been injured late in the year.

We haven't had a truly dominant big, especially on offense, since Chiney in 2013-14. The closest have been Erica McCall (really only her senior season when we went to the Final Four) and Alanna Smith (same, basically midway through her junior year to end of senior year). For much of that stretch our offense subsisted off of role players who could provide three point shooting (Samuelsons/Jump), jump shots (Orrange and Thompson) and slashing guards (Carrington and McPhee). The beauty of Kiana Williams was that she could do all of those, but she didn't really have a big she could reliably feed to inside, because, for a variety of reasons, none of Ally Beebe, Kailee and Kaylee Johnson, Nadia Fingall, or Maya Dodson ever become reliable insider scorers. It's just frustrating that we can't seem to assemble all the pieces at the same time!

Haha, very fair! Last year we did have all the pieces we needed and just enough inside presence to get over the hump. I just worry that we won't be able to take advantage of all our talented bigs without the complementary ball handlers! And yes, after last season, my ambitions for our team are definitely higher!

That's true. Though we missed on Rice, hopefully Nivar's McDonalds All-American selection is an indication of big things to come and maybe we can land Watkins in the Class of '23.
Dodson also has figured out something at N.D. She is averaging 12.6 pts per game this season with double digit scoring in seven of her last eight games and going over 20 points four times this season.

Glad Dodson is doing well at another school. We just have so many talented low post players and Dodson would have been 4th in the depth chart behind Brink, Belibi and Iriafen. We use Prechtel more as a wing on offense so I’m not including her.
