The next step for the women's golf team is the NCAA regional tournament to be played May 9-11. Since Stanford is a regional host, they are assigned to play at Stanford. The NCAA announced the rest of the field today. The list below includes the NCAA regional seeding and the Golfweek ranking.

The big question for Stanford is whether Rachel Heck can play. She did not tee it up at the P12 tournament last week. It has been reported that she is recovering from mono.

The top 3 players in college golf this season as ranked by Golfweek are Rose Zhang from Stanford, Ingrid Lindblad from LSU and Amari Avery from USC. They will all be at the Stanford regional and will probably be paired together on Monday for the 1st round. If you can make it out that day, follow that group. You get to see the golf course and watch how top players navigate their round. If you get tired, stop on a par 3 hole and watch the next group or two hit their shots into the green. Then pick up and follow another group. They are all really good players.

Wednesday will have the most drama. Only the top 4 teams advance to the NCAAs. Make sure that your phone is well charged since the only way to track the team results will be online. I don't think there will be any electronic scoreboards on the course. Don't expect any concessions on the course either.

Hi Pete,

It's very unlike what you see on TV in terms of galleries and ropes etc. The only ropes are around the practice greens, scoring tents, 1st/10th tees, and 18 green. I find the best spots to watch are around the greens because you can watch shots into the green and play around the green - tee shots are harder to follow. A few good vantage points to watch players hitting into the greens and putting out are the hillside to the left of 9 green, above 14 green, and above 3 green.

You can also just follow a group for a few holes just keep your distance and don't talk to the players unless they talk to you. If you follow the Stanford players there will likely be other people there too just stick with them. If you can identify a player's parents they are great to talk to they are very golf-savvy and most are very friendly and thankful you're out there supporting them.

I'll be out there Tuesday afternoon on 17 handling a timing checkpoint and will be a walking scorer with an early group off #10 on Wednesday (8:10a). After my Wednesday round I'll go back out and watch Stanford finish - they will almost certainly be the last five groups off #1 tee (where the top 3 teams will be playing in the final round).

Almost sure to have a Condi sighting or two out there. She's also very friendly.

Also on the team is future Cardinal Megha Ganne. And the 1st alternate is Brooke Seay.

Yes. part of the GolfStat platform includes entry for walking scorers. It's not the official score but a pretty reliable source - the only reliable source I guess until offical scores are posted. We have a walking scorer for every group - not all tournaments have that. I've been told that at some tournaments one of the players has to do the job which I would imagine can be a little distracting. Numerous players and coaches have told me that one reason they like playing at Stanford is our volunteer force. They say it makes it easy for them to focus on playing golf.

Both are Europeans so not eligible for Curtis Cup which is US vs. GB&I, but Krauter is playing the Arnold Palmer Cup in July which is a co-ed tournament for college players. Heck, Seay, Zhang, and Michael Thorbjornsen will also be playing there.
