My guess is that his admission had been conditional on keeping up his high school grades, maybe in particular getting some minimum grade on his AP classes. Then when that grade was too low, instead of denying him admission, the powers that be compromised by requiring him to do some make up work before he could play basketball.
Of course this is just my thought.

We are truly blessed to have a head coach and an AD focused on avoiding first round losses in the NCAA tournament.
