Against all odds, SCU won 17 of their final 20 games to finish 35-18, which includes four consecutive WCC tournament wins over Gonzaga, St. Mary's and two against Portland. It was their first conference championship in 26 years, last one was in 1997.
One of their three losses in that time was not quite a pitcher's duel...a 17-20 loss against Stanford in which Stanford had six hitters with two or more hits and six HRs from Eddie Park, Carter Graham (2), Braden Montgomery, Albert Rios and Owen Cobb.
SCU finished 1-1 against Stanford this year. Stanford's the #3 ranked team in the country. D1 Baseball is projecting that Stanford wreill be the #1 seed in the local regional of the 64 teams selected for the NCAA tournament (16 four-team regions). They are projecting that SCU will be the #4 seed in the same regional, along with Texas and UC Irvine as the #2 and #3 seeds. The tournament selection is 9:00 a.m. tomorrow, Pacific time.

I'd rather not have Santa Clara in Stanford's bracket. I think they could be a tough 4 seed.

You get your wish. Santa Clara (and Arizona) are in the garden spot of America -- Fayetteville, Arkansas, a mere 1,875 miles from the SCU campus. Arkansas is the #1 seed, followed by TCU, Arizona and SCU in that order.
The organizers didn't do Arkansas any favors. TCU beat Arkansas earlier in the year. TCU also lost 2 of 3 to San Diego, a sub-.500 team that played SCU pretty evenly (each team won a 10-6 game, then USD had a narrow overtime win over SCU earlier in the year when SCU had some injured regulars). And Arizona beat #2 Tennessee earlier in the year and split with Stanford. It could get interesting...
