Fantastic!  Fitting that Tara and Cam win the last such awards.  Well, who knows what the Pac 12 will be next year, but fitting that the coach who did more to build the Pac 12 into the nation's best WBB conference should be the final recipient of the coach's award.

She may very well be under appreciated, but I don't see her being Pac12 1st team all defensive. Who does she displace? Not Brink, not Sherrod, not Osborne. Pueyo? 

Pueyo leads the conference in steals and is 7th on the all-time list, so Jump does not displace Pueyo. Betts?

I also don't recall any commentator referring to Jump as a shut-down defender. I think HM is the right call.

Another regret the end of the Pac-12 article focused on Tara, this one from the SF Chron this morning. I so totally endorse the putting the blame on football and the hope that football can be pulled out of conference, be on its own, and that perhaps some new version of the Pac-12, or at least a west coast conference, can be recreated for all the other sports. Love the recognition of the role that Tara has played in the success of WBB in the conference as a whole.

I also think Wiggins should have been higher for the success she had in the Pac-10. But I wonder if her limited WNBA success influenced her placement (IE the opposite of my take of Leslie).

The article says the rankings take the professional careers into account ("....weigh in success the players have had not just in college, but in their professional and international careers as well."). If they only looked at the college careers, Cam would be up there with the best of our Stanford players (1 Time POY, 3 Time DPOY, at least 1 Natty, at least 2 Final Fours). Her stat line is impressive. Not quite as prolific of a scorer as others, but it's made up for by her defense and blocks (the all time P12 career blocks leader with over 400). That's hundreds more blocks than Nneka, Cheney, Val, Jayne....In the end, Cam may end up having the best WNBA career of all of them.

Not sure who I would say is Stanford's best ever college player. I didn't really watch enough of Azzi, Val, Starbird to know how they stack up. Of the players I'm most familiar with, I'd probably go with Chiney. Interested in what others think, especially those who've watched them all!

In other news, Charlisse Leger Walker is seriously considering coming back to WSU next season.  Before she blew out her ACL she was definitely going pro, but she would probably miss the pro season anyway while recuperating from the surgery she had last week. 

There seems to be a pattern of a number of top players coming back, for one reason or another, rather than going pro.

Hope for Brink springs eternal.

Yes, that first Stanford 89-90 NCAA championship post group should include 
Julie ZOELSTRA, so more like STEVENS/WHITING/ZOELSTRA/STEDING 
with STEDING playing more like their starting 3 during that scintillating season.    

For me, it's a tie for Stanford's best post group between that 89-90 dominant post group 
and the APPEL/PEDERESEN/Nneka OGWUMIKE triumvirate because playing together 
for two seasons in 08-09 and 09-10, the latter powered Stanford to 2 Final Fours,
while reaching the NCAA national championship game once. 

Individually, APPEL was part of 3 Final Four teams 
that went on to play in two National Championship games,
while both Nneka and PEDERSEN were part of 4 Final Four teams 
that went on to play in one National Championship game.

As a side comment, Stanford's 2nd NCAA championship team in 91-92
had WHITING as their featured post player but ably supported
in the post by then freshmen Rachel HEMMER (who was voted 
National Freshman of the year) and Anita KAPLAN.

And Stanford's 3rd NCAA championship team in 20-21
had freshman BRINK as their starting center but ably supported
in the post by BELIBI and PRECHTEL and Haley JONES
(who was their starting PF)
