I oppose the idea of a "cutoff" score, because your SAT isn't the whole "story". It is also certainly possible to somewhat "normalize" the SAT scores by which high school the student attended. With those "adjustments" I am totally in favor of requiring the SAT. I also agree the UCs are not going to change soon.

Interesting. I don't remember my specific scores, but I do remember crushing the ACT and being pretty middling on the SAT. I think the most important factors for success in college are the ability to get by on an hour or two of sleep every so often; the ability to subsist on pop tarts and bologna, and the ability to find a hidey hole somewhere on campus to study away from all the women, alcohol, drugs, and midnight rat patrol hockey games back at the house.
Oddly enough this topic is kind of sort of back in the news at our household. After eight years and three deployments, the Marine will retire as a Captain and enter the corporate world, hopefully with a business degree. He's interviewed at UVA, UNC, Duke, and Vandy and should find out mid-March whether he does that on the GI bill or has to find a job. He took the business school equivalent of the SAT and ACT and business schools are phasing out one of them. Fortunately he did well on the test they are not phasing out. I mean he does manage about 200 Marines right now.

I interviewed with head of Arthur Andersen's tax department when I was 31 years old, and he asked me my SAT/Math score. I was a bit nonplussed, to say the least.

I wouldn't give you two cents for all your fancy rules if, behind them, they didn't have a little bit of plain, ordinary, everyday kindness - yeah, and a little looking out for the other fella, too.

I'm sure he feels fine, having won it all and probably having forgotten everything he's said. Even if he had lost, he probably wouldn't have remembered or regretted saying anything about the ACC, Stanford, or Cal, or dying on the vine. People like him fire and forget because they think that they can do no wrong -- winning justifies all, as does the pursuit of winning.

Dorrance wasn't the coach for the 2024 National Champions, having retired in August, before the season. Damon Nahas was the interim head coach who won the title (now the permanent head coach).

Ah. Is he more of the same? He's been on staff at UNC since 2015, so...I imagine he's aligned with his former boss's sentiments.
