Disheartening to see Reynaud play poor defense when matched up one-on-one against the Santa Clara big man. Gealer has a great mentality, but...he can't be the guy to close out games if this team is serious about making the tournament.

Game went about as I thought...SCU dominated on boards, Stanford has better basketball players. Uncharacteristically, SCU dialed it back on the turnovers...they were averaging 16.5, "only" had 10. But SCU gets motivated for a Stanford game in a way that Stanford just doesn't....

I really like Stojakovic's game...he came out like a house on fire. Sweet shot. Reynaud and Spencer had too many turnovers, Bynum looked good when he did everything but shoot. Stanford shot 6 for 10 from three point range in the first half, but just 2/14 in the second half. Unfortunate. And Stanford had 12 turnovers, which I think is uncharacteristic for LSJU.

Stanford is a fun team to watch. Some excellent basketball talent there.

Attendance was listed at 2,649, I would have said 1,500.

Technically that's true. They've won all their home games against the Pac-12 in the last five years except one. They last beat Washington State in Spokane on 12/21/18. They didn't play any Pac 12 team on the road last year, and only one in 2021-22, loss to Cal. Later this year, SCU will play at Cal and will play WSU and Oregon at neutral sites in tournaments.

We are constantly over helping leaving someone wide open from 3, or we just waive at the guy driving to the basket. Did we ever try a zone to maybe slow down the three point shooters some. Thanks, Langdude. I like Herb Sendek, a lot. Great track record, made the postseason all three years at Miami (OH), 9 of 10 years at NC State, and six of nine years at ASU, although four of the six were the NIT. Then he didn't make the postseason his first four years at SCU, though he replaced a former UCLA assistant who was allowed to coach for NINE seasons and never finished better than fourth.

I think he's an okay X's and O's coach. I think time has passed him by a bit. I think he's a terrific recruiter -- much as I like my alma mater, they don't have a lot to offer recruits other than playing time. But the transfer market was tailor-made for a coach like Sendek, six of the seven players in his rotation last night were transfers. And now he can sell that he's had two first round NBA draft choices two years in a row. So he'll do well in the mercenary market. But until either he gets better at X's and O's or hires someone who's better at X's and O's, they will fall short of Gonzaga and St. Mary's and exit in the first round of the NIT or NCAAs. We'll see how well they do against either Alabama or Ohio State a week from Saturday. CBS is ranking SCU #31. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe they're a strong team.

I caught myself shaking my head at stupid or inadequate things that SCU players did about 3x as much as I had that reaction to Stanford players. I really like Stojakovic, Raynaud and Jones/#13. With Stanford now bound for the ACC there should be more interest in the Stanford head coach position....should the team have an opening in the next year or two.
