I was drafted in 2007 by the Giants (#51 overall, 41 spots after Madison Bumgarner), but only played one season in the bigs at Oracle, getting three hits in 22 ABs. My father was the Giants 16th selection in the 1984 draft, and played in the Giants' system for five years.
I bounced around the majors for 11 years as the ultimate utility player...I played every position but catcher. Along the way, I compiled a .248/.294/.386/.680 slash line, but I excelled in the postseason, having participated in four postseasons with a slash line of .316/.325/.500/.825. I hit a walk-off home run in September, 2016 that clinched the pennant for the Dodgers during Vin Scully's last home game (regular season).
Along the way, I begged, pleaded and cajoled my managers into allowing me to pitch in five separate seasons...and I pitched pretty well. I pitched 7 1/3 innings across eight games and my ERA was 1.23 with a 1.364 WHIP. I gave up 7 hits and three walks in those five years, but I only gave up a run in my first game...none in the last seven. My career WAR as a hitter was -0.1, but I actually have a positive WAR as a pitcher, +0.2. My range factor is much better than a typical pitcher, probably because 3B is my natural position, but I played SS, 2B and 1B as well. My fastball topped out at 93.7 mph and averaged 92.2 mph. My spin rate was well above the major league average (2,430 rpm vs. MLB 2,262 rpm).
I haven't been a serious pitcher since my senior year in high school. This year, I am trying to catch on as a pitcher and I have been invited to the minor league camp of the Atlanta Braves.
