The followup link at the top of the page seems to indicate that he is currently a green card holder. He is also now married to a US citizen. Neither one of which should be necessary for his speech to be protected. And, you know, for his immigration status to be adjudicated with all due process.

I suppose part of the point of Stanford’s enormous endowment is to maintain independence and withstand whatever pressure it faces from outside sources threatening to cancel funding. I assume most universities with much smaller endowments lack that luxury and will have to bow to certain demands that Stanford won’t. I’ll be interested to see where different universities draw the line.

I don't think Stanford will ever need to worry about a decline in applicants, thankfully, and that should insulate Stanford from any demographic crisis.  But looming uncertainty in the economy as well as higher costs of borrowing make it a very tough time to invest in expansion.  The financial model of university research may also be nearly wrecked.

it will be interesting to see if there is any change in the number of international applications to Stanford (and others) for the class enrolling in fall 2026 and what the yield is for international applicants admits in the fall of 2025.
