I'm thinking that the keys to his success will be:
1. How well he can anticipate who is likely to be open, given the defensive tells
2. How quickly he can go through his progressions
3. How quickly he can release the ball
4. How accurate he is

If that's the case, I think his strengths will play well to the challenge. He seems like the kind of QB who would do well in an air raid offense and Ayomanor, Mosley and Cisse might be able to make an attack like that work.

I would add: anticipating and responding to pressure.   Stanford has QB's who can run the ball, but sensing pressure and dealing with it effectively is an entirely different skill, and not one in great abundance currently.

It was never realistic to believe a different QB was going to make a "big" difference unless he was both an accurate passer and a quick decisive runner. Someone like a more accurate DTR might make this team noticeably better. I never had much use for DTR as a "prototypical QB" but in some cases there is a "fit". We pretty much knew Brown was not that. No surprise here really.

Brown does need to work with the receivers more. Some of the incompletions were due to the receiver not doing what Brown obviously expected him to do. Our pass blocking is not good enough to reliably protect Brown. Our receivers don't get separation in most cases. That said, when the line holds up well enough and the receivers get open "enough" it looks like Brown can get the ball to them. That is encouraging. We might be "better" with Brown instead of Daniels, but it won't be a massive difference. It does provide some hope though, and that is important.

IIRC, Luck looked very good in his first game, not so good in his second.

Towards the end of the game Brown started to make quick throws on short routes and he looked much better than Daniels or Lamson in his accuracy.  He did throw up some prayers down the field, but given he had no time in the pocket I'm not worried much about that.  If he practices as QB1 this week we might see a better performance out of him against Wake.

Agree. He can throw the short routes with adequate accuracy. He and his receivers will also be more "on the same page" regarding how the routes should be run depending on the way it is being covered. There will undoubtedly be some "issues" caused by Brown learning what throws simply should not be made. He will also have to learn to complete the longer throws when the stars align and the play is "there". He won't get many of those so we need him to "hit" them when we do.

I was encouraged by what I saw. Brown stayed in the pocket (or stepped up) most of the time rather than scrambling at the first sign of trouble. He kept his eyes downfield. When he scrambled, he was unpredictable, scrambling to the left or the right rather than predictably always to the right. He was elusive enough when he saw the rush coming. He threw into tight windows, perhaps too brazenly so, but it was nice to see.

Maybe he will learn his lesson after a few more sacks and rough hits, but for now, he seemed unafraid to take hits in the interest of waiting a few more moments to find an open receiver and pass downfield.

Our receivers, especially Mosely, didn't help him much. His 25-yard pass on 4th-and-long was right on the money - it's baffling why Mosely was so off yesterday.  Brown would have had 3-4 more completions and one fewer interception if Mosely was catching balls that hit both of his hands.

Brown needs a better sense of how little time he has. The game is moving faster than he is accustomed to. TT called Brown a "very accurate" QB in his post-game interview, which struck me as a contrast to our other QBs. I expect that we'll see more of that accuracy over time. 

But my untrained eyes saw plenty of potential...
