the pros are not kind to tweeners like haley and candice. nicole, too.
but also, most of our top players were not stars in the pros - candice, jayne, nicole, lindsay yamasaki, kristin folkl, kate starbird. a few were - nneka, chiney (hopefully cam after recovery from surgery) and a few others have started - currently lexie and alanna.
true of stanford football as well: andrew luck, cmc yes; toby and bryce love no.
lots of other college football super stars didn't make it in the pros - tim tebow, robert griffin iii, johnny manziel...
Why do you think Candice Wiggins was never particularly consistent in the pros? I don't view her as a "tweener", she was a 5'11/6'0 explosive shooting guard at Stanford.
I also thought Nicole Powell at Stanford showed every bit of promise to be a Tamika Catchings/Maya Moore like SF in the pros, but she too never asserted herself beyond a steady role player in Sacramento. Jayne never matched the success she had at Stanford, nor did Kayla, Jeanette, etc. It's too bad, the WNBA is a tough league but it's also not a great look for Stanford.
i say not a star in the wnba because, if i remember correctly, though candice was drafted 3rd overall. she came off the bench initially, started her 2nd year, then went back to the bench when lindsay whalen arrived, then was traded and stayed a back-up.
i say wnba tweener because, in the games i watched she spent a lot of time spotting up at the 3-point line waiting for a pass. so in the wnba (not at stanford!), she was considered not quick enough for the point and not big enough to play inside.
iirc nicole also spent much of her wnba time out at the 3 point line. again, considered by her wnba coach not quick enough for guard, not big enough for post. i disagreed, but i didn't get a vote.
i agree that haley's skills are closer to nicole than to candice. more powerful than quick - dominant against college defenders but not against wnba defenders. and like nicole, a good point guard but not a dominant point guard.
