Notes on the 2025 Stanford Football Personnel grid:
1. The grid lists players by class year and not eligibility. Freshman players generally do not play enough to use a year of eligibility, but if a player has done so, it is denoted.
2. To the 2024 Stanford Football Personnel grid, I have added 35 players.
a. The 18-person incoming “CardClass25,” consisting of 17 scholarship players and one preferred walk-on (PWO)
b. Seventeen transfer student-athletes; school year denoted is for 2025 season. Those who started more than once for their old school marked in bold.
==> 6th year QB Ben Gulbranson (Oregon State)
==> Junior QB Dylan Rizk (UCF)
==> 5th year RB Tuna Altahir (EWU)
==> 5th year TE Brendan Doyle (Memphis)
==> 5th year WR David Pantelis (Yale)
==> Senior WR CJ Williams (USC/Wisconsin)
==> Junior WR Caden High (Benedict/South Carolina State)
==> Junior WR Jordan Onovughe (Colorado)
==> Senior OT Niki Prongos (UCLA)
==> Sophomore OG Kai Greer (Georgia Tech)
==> Junior OG Nick Fattig (Texas Tech)
==> 5th year C Nathan Mejia (Sacramento State)
==> 5th year ILB Hunter Barth (Kal)
==> Junior ILB Zach Johnson (Idaho)
==> 5th year CB Jordan Washington (Dartmouth)
==> Sophomore CB Breylan Thompson (Yale)
==> Sophomore CB Sam Neely III (Wake Forest)
Note: CJ Williams, and Breylan Thompson have burned their redshirts; all others have not. Zach Johnson played in five games as a freshman (and 14 as a sophomore) at Idaho, but for some reason he was able to retain his redshirt. Ditto Caden High, who played extensively his freshman year at Benedict before playing his sophomore year at SCSU, but perhaps because Benedit is DII, it did not count.
3. From the 2024 Stanford Football Personnel grid, I have removed 35 players; those who started at some point in their career marked in bold, walk-ons at Stanford marked in italics.
a. Five players declaring for the NFL draft; year denoted is for 2024 season

==> 5th year C Levi Rogers (UDFA, Bills)
==> 6th year ILB Tristan Sinclair (UDFA, 49ers)
==> 5th year DT Tobin Phillips (undrafted, unsigned)
==> Senior ILB Gaethan Bernadel (undrafted, unsigned)

==> RB Kenaj Washington (senior)
==> TE Shield Taylor (5th year)

c. Three players regained their previously burnt redshirt because they were not able to play more than four games in 2024.
==> Junior S Ché Ojarikre
==> Senior S Jay Green
==> Senior WR Jason Thompson (walk-on)
5. Other Transfer Notes
a. Outgoing 5th year QB Justin Lamson and senior RB Ryan Butler are each going to their third college after transferring to Stanford from Syracuse and Princeton, respectively.
b. Two other players were officially counted as going through the transfer portal, even though they never officially played on the team.
==> Heralded freshman QB Bear Bachmeier declared for Stanford and actually enrolled, participating in part of spring ball before entering the transfer portal and transferring to BYU before his freshman year began.
==> Fifth-year CB Julian Neal entered the transfer portal from Fresno State and declared for Stanford, but then re-entered the portal before enrolling, “transferring” his declaration to Arkansas.
c. There were several former Stanford football players who also entered the transfer portal.
==> 5th year RB Brendan Barrow, who last played on the team in 2023, will be playing at the University of Rhode Island.
==> S Jaden Slocum, who last played on the team in 2023 as a junior, and CB Brandon Jones, who last played on the team in 2022 as a junior, both entered their names into the transfer portal, but had no takers.
==> In a really cool story, Carson Berger, who last played as a freshman walk-on ILB at Stanford in 2023, is now playing for the University of Texas as a walk-on RB.
6. Roster Positioning Errata
a. The official roster does not designate specific positions for most offensive and defensive linemen. I have listed OL and DL players at specific positions in the grid based on recruiting profiles to help us discern depth, pipeline, and possible starting combinations, though the grid designation of specific players will likely change as positions are determined by the coaching staff.
b. When a player is listed on the official roster at two positions or it is ambiguous (e.g., “defensive back” or “athlete”), I have listed them in the grid according to the position where they appear the most (Devery Hamilton Rule).
As always, I appreciate any corrections or input.
