The ACC women's golf tournament begins tomorrow with 36 holes of stroke play on Thursday and 18 more on Friday. After that, the low 8 teams will proceed to match play with quarters and semis on Saturday and the final on Sunday. The tournament is being played at Porter's Neck CC in Wilmington, NC, a Tom Fazio course. Looks to me like the course has a lot of trees and a lot of water. 

Stanford is in the first groups off #1 tee starting at 4:30 am pacific. The lineup is exactly what you expect - Xu, Ortengren, Ganne, Revuelta, Martin Sampedro.

I think we can say with high confidence that Stanford will finish in the top 8 after today's stroke play final round and will advance to match play tomorrow. 

Midway through the final round, Stanford has maintained a 12 shot cushion over SMU. Paula Martin Sampedro and Rianne Malixi (who are playing together) are engaged in a terrific battle for the individual championship. With 9 holes to play, Martin Sampedro has a 2 shot lead.

Based on unaudited Claude analysis, the pre-tournament favorite has won 2 of the last 10 men's tournaments and 5 of the last 10 women's tournaments (where there are usually a few dominant teams).

Also worth mentioning that match play is a traditional championship format in golf and was the original format for most/all golf competitions.

The NCAA regional field will be announced today at 1 pm on The Golf Channel. Not much drama around Stanford. They will be the #1 seed at the regional to be played at Stanford GC. We will find out this afternoon which other teams will be there.
