Got here late and didn't miss much. We're down 5-2 at 4:21 in the first quarter. Shooting 9.1% overall and 0% from 3. Ugh.

14-8 at the quarter break. Still 0% from 3. 50% from the free throw line. Dismal.

Is it pretty much the same perimeter-passing based offense? TIA
Yes, pretty much. We did just see one successful screen.
Thanks for both moving and answering my ? :-)

At the half, we trail by 13 (33-20). Our top scorer is Swain and her +/- is -13. Wow, this season could be a bloodbath.
Put a glide in your stride and a dip in your hip.

That’s why many of us chose to not renew season tickets. It’s going to be the longest season of Stanford WBB in my watching WBB lifetime probably. I want it over already so Kate Paye can finally be gone.

OMG, stop with the Paye nonsense. It was a bad game… but she didn’t miss layups, free throws, 3 pointers… like everything cannot be Kate Paye. The team didn’t do well at all. But that’s the point of the exhibitions. To live and learn. What frustrate me the most is the benefits for students that don’t show up. And that nothing new. I’ve come to games for many many years… so don’t say it’s cause of this team or since Kate took over.

Paye is the coach so YES layups, FT, FUNDAMENTALS are reflections of coaching. If you actually think this exhibition was just to "live and learn" you are in for a very long season as a fan filled with disappointment. I'm expecting 0.500 or below.
I know for a fact season ticket holder numbers are significantly down this season and that is largely because of Paye and the happenings of last spring so again write your own narrative. Students have not been going to games for years. That is no surprise to anyone.

GM: Well, I couldn’t fire the whole team.

Tonight was a painful watch and after watching the first two scrimmages, I'm as pessimistic as Card10Fan for slightly different reasons.
First, the players I saw are not very quick or athletic (with the exception of Shay and Nora). If our post players are getting driven around and beaten to the hoop by guards from the Big West, the faster and quicker ACC guards will give us a lot of problems. This is a much less talented team than Stanford has had in a long time.
Second, this group of players hasn't played together very much and it shows. Stanford has 5 returners (including only 1 starter), 3 transfers from different programs, and four freshmen. The new players are used to different systems and it will take time for them to gel together. This was very obvious tonight, especially in the first half.
Third, this group isn't playing quickly. Santa Barbara played much more quickly than we did on offense., while we looked laborious with the ball - and that goes straight to the coaching.
During the first half, the offense looked disjointed. The second half was better but when we got close at the end, We reverted to the very simple "throw it into the post" offense from last year and Santa Barbara was able to defend it.
I think Coach Paye needs to realize the type of players she has and find a freer offense for them instead of the structured offense she's been using.
