But Todd Husak breaking down QBs and RBs is good reading:

Surprisingly, I thought the RB breakdown was more informative that than QB breakdown.

Husak wrote that Hogan is working on his mechanics...anyone know what aspect of his mechanics that is? The picture that is in the Rule of Tree article shows Hogan holding the ball in the most awkward way if he is about to throw it....

I'm not an expert AT ALL, but at times last year it looked to me like Hogan was starting his throwing motion from down around his waist.  The ball always ended up with good velocity and accuracy (at least with the short and medium range throws), but I swear it reminded me a bit of Tebow.  If that was not just my imagination, I would guess the coaches would love to get rid of the wind-up, which is bound to cost him some time in getting the ball out of his hand (and if he's bringing the ball down, would seem to make him more vulnerable to getting it knocked out of his hand by a defender).

One of the gurus on the Bootleg-- and ex-college player and QB at that-- noted that Hogan keeps the ball low on his drop backs and moves inside the pocket.  Then he winds up for the throw.  Both those add time to the delivery.  That gives the DB a read on the play and more time to react.  Add to that the fact that Hogan's long ball just isn't that great and you have the situation we all saw on Rector's Spring Game catch for a TD.  Lots of luck and very athletic second effort to avoid the goal line int. or incompletion.  Rector, with all his speed, had to slow down and wait for Hogan's ball.  Hogan seems better throwing on the move, but then he's usually throwing short-to-medium passes.

Husak could fairly be described as "extremely bullish" on the WR/TEs: http://www.ruleoftree.com/2013/4/22/4253...tight-ends

Note that incoming freshmen will also have the chance to contribute -- we've heard great things about Pope Owusu, and then we've got three "immediate impact" raffle tickets at TE.

Now the question becomes: can Hogan actually make the adjustments the coaches are teaching?  Or, is he someone like Tebow, who seems unable to make the change?  Obviously, because of Hogans athleticism and his ability to handle pressure, we can win a lot of games with him.  But if he can refine his mechanics, who knows how good he (and we) can be?

I hope Hogan is like Tebow . . . Voldemort, national championship, second highest rated passer in NCAA history. I'd take that.
