For those of you who have been around Stanford for a while, you might notice something special is happening over on the practice fields, in the weight room, and most importantly on the grass at Stanford Stadium.
Stanford is winning football games. Â A lot of them.
I\'ve seen a lot of Stanford games. Â John Elway, Brad Muster, Tommy Vardell, Glyn Milburn, Steve Stenstrom, Todd Husak, Darrien Gordon, John Lynch, Ron George, Trent Edwards. Â I\'ve seen more than my share of bad seasons. Â I\'ve seen some pretty good seasons. Â I\'ve seen coaches that we thought would take us to the promised land (Denny Green, Walsh II). Â I\'ve even seen the promised land, albeit briefly, and it was occupied by Ron Dayne. Â I\'ve even seen an AD attempt to dismantle the football program. Â
I\'ve never seen a turnaround in 4 short years like this. Â I\'ve never seen ANYTHING at Stanford like this.
The talent pipeline is loaded.  Last season a Stanford guy came within a few votes of winning the Voldemort trophy.  This year the QB won\'t win but he might make the invite list.  The coaching staff is solid.  The offense is prolific.  The defense is still a bit shaky but has 2 conference shutouts to its credit.  The only thing that is missing is a short but growing string of home sellouts  :(
This week Stanford is #6 in the BCS. Â Are you kidding me?
There\'s magic in the air. Â Stanford, just a few short seasons removed from being the Pac-10\'s punching bag and losing to I-AA schools, is ranked ahead of Florida, Florida State, Ohio State, Alabama, Oklahoma and Nebraska, to name a few.
This is unprecedented. Â And I\'m loving every minute of it.
Each week I think the dream will end. Â We\'ll drop a game to a mid-tier team and be relegated to the Humanitarian Bowl. Â But Jim\'s boys keep right on dominating the line of scrimmage and lighting up the scoreboard. Â Now, there\'s still lots of football left to play and things could still go off the rails. Â Somewhere out there is a score to settle with the state of California\'s highest paid employee and a piece of hardware to re-acquire. Â But for now savor the moment, and focus on Arizona State.
What we need to do: Â Get out there and support this team. Â There shouldn\'t be any unsold Stanford tickets for the Big Game, or any empty seats for the season-ender against OSU. Â Anyone with deep pockets, can we figure out how to get Harbaugh and his staff some more money? Â Seriously, if this thing plays out, Harbaugh is going to be THE most sought-after coach in all of football. Â More than Urban Meyer, Pete Caroll, you name it. Â
We still have 4 games to play in this season. Â Don\'t let the dream die.
