I've never met him, but he seems a gentle soul. Obviously he was able to draw great athletes & keep them in the program. I presume that he was also a great teacher. His players, Stanford, we fans, & WVB will all remember him fondly.
I'm not sure his exact age, but I'm sure there are a number of us that are in the same range. Just hours ago, I was thinking of what I might do if I decided to retire. I have a great job & am appreciated, but, still, there are other things I might never do if I don't make room for them now. I could see making a quick decision to step aside when you're at the top.
