Yes, the back story is that he was a math teacher at a high school in Sunnyvale (he was my brother's math teacher, and they still play golf occasionally), and was asked to start the girls volleyball team. Not only was he new to volleyball, so were the girls, so he started coaching club volleyball including developing young girls (probably started the club, I think). Ended up winning the high school state championship I believe. Then wife laid down the law: you can't be coaching volleyball full time and teaching math full time, you have to choose one or the other. The rest is history.
