I like that optimism 07! And I think that it contributes to one of the intangibles in sports, Team Confidence. We as fans have an opportunity to help create that winning spirit. We have to turn off the drone of the national narrative to build that confidence. At the halftime of the UCLA-OreState game last night when Rebecca Lobo and her fellow sportscasters were discussing who might be the 4th seed in the NCAA Tournament, Lobo, once again overlooked Stanford as a potential team. She speculated that #4 would be either Louisville, Maryland, or even CONN. No mention of Stanford by her or anyone with a mic.
I can think back on decades of tournaments when an unexpected team captured the hearts of the fans across the country with their inspired play and never-say-die spirit. None of them said, "It can’t be done because we are statistically out of it." We have the choice to be "can do, will do" fans and be part of the winning spirit!
