In the absence of any other information, any speculation on whether Hones’ suspension was excessive or not is just that… speculation.  It is possible that Vanderveer overreacted, at least compared to the suspension handed down to Skov (though there were some extenuating circumstances in that case). It is also possible that there was additional info we aren’t privy to that would explain a seemingly disproportionate punishment. Just as there was no indication that Hones had already been on thin ice because of past behavior, there was no outward indication that the coach somehow “had it in” for her.

Be that as it may, I agree that Hones was a big part of our run. By the way, she did wind up getting a master’s degree (in sociology), so she almost certainly would have been back had it not been for the incident.
