Everyone always thinks the reffing is bad, because refs aren’t perfect, make bad calls (or have to make calls in borderline situations) and as biased fans we are more likely to notice borderline calls going against us than calls going our way.

It’s a similar bias that makes us fans think we can call plays better than the coach.  The errors are noticeable, but the calls when things go ok are unremarkable.
