Just watched the Oregon State / Utah game and it'll be an interesting match-up.

It's almost amusing because Oregon State reminds me so much of Stanford -- they run a mesh play, we run a mesh play. They like to run end-around reverses, we like to run end-around reverses. They make mistakes and turn the ball over, we make mistakes and turn the ball over. Their secondary lets picks fall through their hands, our secondary lets picks fall their their hands.

But they have  physical fronts -- I think they even out physical-ed Utah with both lines (!!) -- containing Utah's running attack (except for their quarterback) and getting good running yards with some very hard running and a mobile quarterback. Utah's offense did not produce a lot of yards (though it didn't need to).

But which would I rather have -- an immobile (future NFL) quarterback who makes good decisions, or a choice between a mobile quarterback who makes very bad decisions and throws ducks and a medium-mobile quarterback who makes some bad decisions.

I'd choose McKee. 

Neither team is a complete team -- both have serious flaws, so if one team can cover their weaknesses and exploit their opponent's, things could get shockingly lopsided. But on average, I pick Stanford at home by a hair.

Not a Complete Team At Home - 24
Not a Complete Team Visiting - 23

Since the team should always prevail over the individual I'd say I prefer that if the team loses two more in a row and becomes 1-5 then it's time to think about next year (especially if I think the university doesn't have the stones to fire Shaw). Then I would pat McKee on the back, thank him for his service, wish him well and give playing time to the two young guys to battle-test them for next year. Of course Shaw has a questionable sense of intestinal fortitude and will not be criticized by anyone on the planet. Stanford went from EUTM to an introvert.

And entering 2023 with the embargo on transfers (especially QB's) Stanford is playing with a hand tied around its back. Doomsday.

I don't know if I would go that far, but I do think when it becomes apparent that our chances of winning the game are just about zilch (like we are down 31-3 at halftime) I would definitely pull McKee and give the younger guys some experience.
