To put last night's defense in perspective, Santa Clara scored 69. South Carolina only scored 61 in regulation. FGCU scored 69. Every other team we have played we have held to 50 or less.
Sacramento State, UC Santa Barbara, and common opponent CSUN held Santa Clara to fewer points than we did.
Folks, we have better athletes than those teams. We just were not prepared for the Santa Clara system of play, even though we did manage to shut down their two best players--they had other players who stepped up within the same system.
So my question is: what future opponents do we have who emphasize the pick and roll, who emphasize screening? Oregon used to in the Ionescu days...who does now? I hope Gonzaga is not one of those teams, since we need work.
