Sacramento State, UC Santa Barbara, and common opponent CSUN held Santa Clara to fewer points than we did.
Folks, we have better athletes than those teams. We just were not prepared for the Santa Clara system of play, even though we did manage to shut down their two best players--they had other players who stepped up within the same system.
So my question is: what future opponents do we have who emphasize the pick and roll, who emphasize screening? Oregon used to in the Ionescu days...who does now? I hope Gonzaga is not one of those teams, since we need work.
I think that Santa Clara prepares for and gets up for Stanford far more than they do any other team. What you saw was SCU's "A" game. Conversely, it's easy to overlook SCU as an opponent. I think if the opponent were South Carolina, UConn or tOSU, you'd see a different Stanford. last night, they played just as well as they needed to.
