Muir presumably knew this coach termination was imminent, and had to understand the portal's impact to the roster if hiring inaction lingered for more than a few days.   Therefore a solid AD would have to developed a plan for the new coach should be announced ASAP, presumably a couple of days at most.   

Therefore, I would expect a competent AD would be in a position to announce the next Stanford coach before March 25th.

Disagree completely. If you have a real shot at a good coach in the NCAA Tournament (like, for instance, WSU's coach Kyle Smith), I think a good AD waits to interview that coach.
