Here’s my idea to deal with the portal bullshit. Scholarships plus. It would be a full two-year commitment. The player would not just get a scholarship. The player would also get a NIL deal tied to it. Obviously, the amount being negotiated. if the player doesn’t stay the full two years – all of the NIL money must be returned. No exceptions. And they’d be renewable. Hell, make it three years with them having a third year “opt out“.
This is essentially no different now than free agency in professional sports. Except actually, it’s worse because you can’t have long-term contracts. And at least in major league baseball, a team has control over the players for a few years.
Otherwise, they’re gonna lose a lot of fans. They’ve already lost me for the most part. I happen to be overseas right now, so I’m not watching, but I can’t even tell you who are in the final four on the men’s side. I do know Iowa is in the final four on the women’s side.
