As my dad used to say, "The real heroes never come home."
Truely America's Greatest Generation.
Amazing how many WW2 vets never talked about what they did or experienced during WW2. Many of the ones I knew left a written history of their respective experiences to be read after their passing. Was shocked to learn one flew 25 missions as a B-17 pilot over Europe, one was with Merrell Marauders, two brothers were both Navy pilots and flew in the Battle of Midway, my uncle told everybody that he taught others how to fly B-25's only to learn he flew 25 missions and then became an instructor after he passed. My first supervisor was a Marine Sargant who island hopped through the South Pacific. My father was in the Battle of Midway.
