Grant Fisher won the men's 10000 today, looked really good, very strong finish. harrison Williams not looking good in decathlon. But Whittaker, Willis, and Baker all advanced to the semis in the women's 800. And both Cranny and Donaghu both advanced to finals in women's 5000, cranny after winning her heat   Stanford athletes looking good!

Grant's time was nice, but I don't see anyone not capable of running sub 27 medaling.  World record is 26:11 I think.  That works out to a 4:13 mile pace.  I do not mean to denigrate Grant's achievement, winning the Olympic Qualifying and getting a chance to run in Paris, but there is simply a somewhat significant gap between a very good T&F athlete and one capable of winning the Olympics.  Our two great female 800 meters fall into the same category, near world class, but not quite there yet.  Making up the roughly 6 second difference between their best and the world class times can maybe be made up as they get older and train, train, train.  But you can't teach genetics.
