Luck would be making a brobdingnagian mistake if he tries to hire a full time coach before an athletic director is hired.
Maybe he can get a package deal like Lynch and Shanahan, but making a permanent hire first would be a recipe for disaster. I doubt Levin would sign off on principle, but also this is a time when Stanford is in perilous financial straits.

USC is working with an endowment a fraction of Stanford's but Stanford is not immmune from the sudden uncertainty of Federal funding.
