He's going to have to find a truly woebegone program where a true freshman QB would be the most talented QB on the roster.  And that kind of program is unlikely to be able to pay him big bucks.

Maybe, maybe not. It is possible he doesn't want to be a third-string QB at a Stanford program that isn't exactly expected to be "good" anytime soon. Maybe better in his estimation to be a third-string QB someplace else that is habitually good. That way, when he works is way up to first-string in a year or two he will be able to play in relevant games and turn some heads. I have no idea what his NIL compensation at Stanford is, but perhaps it isn't hard to at least match it. It may be that he just isn't a "fit" for the offense we will be running and it isn't what he signed up for when TT was the coach. It also may be he just doesn't enjoy being at Stanford. If either is the case, going elsewhere may make lots of sense.

Sorry, but giving up a Stanford degree to pursue ... well, exactly what? I repeat: he's getting bad advice.
