Wow, yes we lost but I'm really surprised how negative everyone is.
We weren't expected to win this game. The Vegas line was Stanford +2.5. Right on the nose.
Yes we had a chance to win. I don't blame 91. There were any number of plays that might have changed the outcome...the blocked field goal, the interception, the D stopping either of Hawaii's two long drives at the end, the D not giving up 45 yards in penalties that last drive, Reich calling running plays instead throwing on Stanford's last possession at least until there was no more than 30 seconds left on the clock, etc.
Some positives:
- first rushing touchdown in nearly two years
- first RB with a 100-yard rushing game since Micah Ford against Clemson last year
- only one delay of game penalty, which I think was intentional
- only one offensive holding penalty, which was declined and didn't change the outcome (I’m sure I’m not the only one who thought “offensive holding” every time the whistle blew.)
- a 9-minute run-first TD drive like we haven’t seen for almost a decade
I’m no Borg. I probably would have dropped my season tickets this year if Taylor were still the coach. Yet I had fun watching a game for the first time in a few years.
Ultimately we don't have the horses but at least the kids put up a fight.
