Hmm, how do you feel about 91? Your series of posts about him didn't make it clear. :-)
Not defending it, it sucked. Think ref overreacted too, but it's NCAA so 91 was dumb there. But it would have still been 2nd down without the penalty. We have no idea what would have happened after that.
So let's not lose focus on blaming our absolutely terrible QB play, Reich sticking with him, and the horrible play-calling on our last possession!
hawaii then scored on a long pass. their receiver easily beat our db deep. that play would have scored from 15 yards farther out.
iirc stanford had three 15-yard penalties on that defensive series.
to my eyes, it was a bogus call - patterson was not taunting hawaii players or the crowd, turning flips, signing a football on the 50-yard line, etc. it was a modest dance. hawaii certainly celebrated their touchdowns. most of all, it was FUNNY not mocking - ie not demeaning or aggressive!
