I somewhat disagree, but I guess it depends on how you define slog. This was 2 pretty good teams and there wasn’t a lot of boot ball in this one. SMU though was pretty happy to sit back and pick their spots to counter and get forward despite maybe needing a win. They also defended well. The end result was a lot of Stanford possession, but very few results from said possession. SMU actually had better chances overall - especially the wide open header they missed with about 17:30 left.
Islam is badly missed in a game like this. So we got a bunch of crosses to nowhere and a couple of set piece chances with no goals. Definitely a game where Stanford needed to be more patient and more varied n their play.
But a tie against SMU won’t hurt much in the grand scheme. My bigger worry is how long is Islam out? The offense is not the same without him.
